Wolfram Krammel asked:

If you are thinking about having cosmetic surgery, there are several things to consider before you go under the knife. Whether you are getting a tummy tuck, liposuction, a breast augmentation, facelift or another procedure, you need to think about what will happen before and after the surgery.

Choosing to have any surgical procedure done is a big decision, and it is not uncommon to have doubts. Make sure that you discuss your questions, problems or concerns with your surgeon prior to the big day. It may also be beneficial for you to speak with other individuals who have had similar cosmetic procedures done. Your surgeon may be able to refer you to someone who has had similar issues regarding their surgery.

After you have prepared your mind for the change, you should prepare yourself physically for the experience. Here are a few things that you can do to get ready for the surgery. You may have to acquire medical clearance from your regular doctor to ensure that your body is healthy enough to have the procedure. Many surgeons require this prior to agreeing to perform cosmetic surgery on an individual.

Your doctor will discuss specific preparation with you as well as answer any last minute questions you may have. This includes the possibility of scaring, the expected recovery time, and medications. You may need prescriptions for nausea or pain, and your surgeon will most likely provide these prior to the surgery. This way, you will have them handy if you need them after the operation. Certain medications may need to be avoided, specifically aspirin and similar products. Make sure that you stay away from anything on this list that the doctor will provide.

Begin taking better care of your body so that you can reduce the amount of recovery time you will need following the operation. This includes exercising, quitting smoking, and eating a healthy amount of protein. Doing these things will make the entire process easier on your body. Also, make sure that you take care of any personal grooming activities before the surgery, such as haircuts, waxing, pedicures, etc.

Just before the surgery, make sure that all of your regular household and work responsibilities are taken care of, or arrange for someone else to do these things for you. If you wear nail polish, take it off, as the anesthesiologist will need to examine your fingers to check for circulation issues.

Since certain procedures may cause swelling, including breast enhancement, so it is a good idea to prepare comfortable, loose fitting clothing for two weeks following the surgery. Set aside the clothes prior to the operation.

Remember to talk about all of your concerns with your surgeon, and be honest about the state of your health, especially regarding medications that you take. If you follow all of these preparation tips, you will have a great surgery with minimal recovery time.

florida plastic surgery

Drew Himel asked:

Many people have at one time or another secretly hoped that they looked like some movie star or sports personality they admire. Others have felt that life would probably treat them much better if they had a cuter face or were a bit taller. Modern science has brought us to new levels in the field of plastic surgery. Nowadays plastic surgeons are offering tummy tucks, breast augmentation, face-lifts, and nose jobs among many other procedures to willing clientele. You need to consider the following tips when choosing a plastic surgeon.

The first thing to do when choosing a plastic surgeon is to determine if the surgeon is certified by the relevant board as one who can practice in the field of plastic surgery. Being registered gives the surgeon credibility. Board certified surgeons would normally have undergone at least three years training in general surgery and two years training in plastic surgery. Certified surgeons also take oral and written tests from time to time. They undergo continuing education to upgrade their skills and sit for a written test every ten years. For your own peace of mind, therefore always deal with board certified doctors.

It is also your responsibility to conduct your own research to check on the performance record of the doctor. This is a crucial step when choosing a plastic surgeon. This kind of information is in the public domain and is easy enough to find. If you wish to check on the record of a particular doctor in your area, simply visit the local medical board’s website. Most medical boards keep records on all their members including malpractices committed and disciplinary action taken.

It is important also to know if the doctor has any hospital privileges. This is a crucial criterion to follow up on when choosing a plastic surgeon. It is also necessary to know which particular hospitals provide such privileges to the doctor. Hospitals routinely conduct background checks on their doctors. They will not provide privileges to one whose reputation they are unaware of. Lack of hospital privileges should sound alarm bells in your mind. You never know why he or she has none. It is better to walk away as a matter of caution than expose yourself to risk.

As you attend pre-surgical appointments, seek to gather as much information as possible concerning the procedure. It would be advisable to go to the doctor’s office with a trusted friend or family member. Your friend would probably inquire from the doctor in a more objective manner devoid of any emotion. Ask questions concerning the procedure. Also, observe how the doctor handles the appointment. Ask yourself if the doctor gave you enough time to ask questions or if the answers were satisfactory. Information gathered during such periods is important when choosing a plastic surgeon.

Finally, beware of any doctor suggesting that you undergo multiple procedures all at one go. The more procedures you undergo the higher the inherent risk. In many such instances, money is usually the primary motivation. Avoid such practitioners when choosing a plastic surgeon.

florida plastic surgery

Dan O. Schaefer asked:

Plastic or reconstructive surgery is by no means new. For thousands of years, humans have struggled and improvised to mold or correct physical malfunction and form in bone and tissue. It is only recently that procedures have been used for purely cosmetic reasons. Until the 20th century, those who “went under the knife” did so by necessity, either because they were physically or emotionally scarred or maimed.

Now, of course, procedures are accessed by many, and plastic surgery now includes everything from non-invasive, non-surgical procedures like Botox injections to face lifts, breast reduction/enlargement, ear surgery, liposuction, tummy tucks, nose surgery, laser skin resurfacing and permanent makeup, to name a few.

How did that happen and who is taking advantage of what’s available in cosmetic surgery these days?

Interestingly enough, though the stereotype might have us think that wealthy individuals who have nothing better to do with their loads of money are pouring it into the pockets of plastic surgeons, a recent study refutes this knee jerk assumption.

Who gets breast augmentation? Who invests in injectable facial fillers like Botox and Radiesse? What’s the typical patient in an NYC or Miami plastic surgery office look like? Well, first of all it’s usually a “she.” No surprise there. Secondly, she is not rich but rather brings in an average income. And finally, she has never had plastic surgery before.

These were the findings from a study funded by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and conducted online in 2005.

Now that the economy has taken a nosedive, these numbers might not be representative. It’s not so easy, after all, to pay for Botox when you’ve been laid off. But the study does reveal something interesting about the state of cosmetic surgery in the early 21st century. Namely, that it’s not as scary as it used to be. If you feel it’s safe to reshape that nose or lift that neck, chances are better you’re going to go for it.

Second question: Who really needs cosmetic surgery? This is a matter for debate. Or maybe it’s not. Some may say we all feel a little too pressured to “look good” and that we should learn to be more comfortable with our lines and wrinkles. Others, especially those who rely heavily on their youthful looks in their careers, might have something to say about that. It doesn’t help you to be at peace with your frown lines if they are making your employees think you’re always stressed out or angry.

So, the question of who “should” have cosmetic surgery depends on many factors, not the least of which is the “hidden health” we all try to nurture every day: our emotional well-being. For example, those who feel crippled by an overly large nose or who are depressed because they can’t get rid of that tummy bulge, even after years of eating right and working out, nose surgery or liposuction may be viable options worth the expense and recovery time required. Once healed from these procedures, once-hindered individuals can move on, putting energy into other things.

Of course, it goes without saying that “who needs it” most are those who are suffering from deformity or disease that can be treated with such procedures as rhinoplasty, breast reconstruction, ear surgery, and laser skin resurfacing. For those with debilitating conditions, advancements in this field are a godsend.

The phenomenon of plastic/reconstructive/cosmetic surgery is broad and fascinating, an umbrella topic under which lie a plethora of sociological, emotional, medical, gender-based, culture-based and other issues. Observations about how it is evolving and who is taking advantage of new developments can tell us much about who we modern day humans are, how we perceive our bodies, and how we can apply human innovation to improved quality of life.

florida plastic surgery

A Aaronson asked:

Cosmetic surgery trends and aesthetic ideals change over the course of time. The concept of beauty itself is personal, subjective and culturally influenced. What most people don’t realize is that geographic location heavily influences the popularity of certain procedures. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, or ASPS, conducted a study that recorded these geographic plastic surgery trends throughout the United States. Some of their findings will probably surprise you.

For example, it was found that 48% of hair transplants occur in Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. There is no evidence to show the exact reasons behind this, but factors that affect cosmetic surgery trends could include the concentration of cosmetic specialists in specific regions, climate, and the collective mentality of the region.

In the Northeast, where winters can be harsh, New England holds the title for the highest number of male breast reduction surgeries, or gynecomastia, and lower body lifts (both 30%). Extreme climates often result in a less active population. Residents are forced to stay indoors for long periods of time, which can sometimes cause weight gain and subsequent loss when the weather warms up.

Male breast reduction and body lifts are often performed on those who have undergone weight gain and loss. Gene pools may also play a factor in the concentration of certain procedures. Certain traits can be inherited through generations and flourish throughout a specific region.

As the ASPS study heads down the East coast through the South Atlantic states of Delaware, D.C., Florida, Georgia, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North and South Carolina, and Puerto Rico, buttock implants trump all other cosmetic surgeries at a rate of 25%. Some local surgeons believe that these findings are inaccurate.

Similarly, plastic surgeons in the East North Central states of Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and the West North Central states of North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, and Kansas, claim that the rate of 30% buttock lifts and 29% dermabrasion procedures are erroneous as well.

Towards the West coast, where plastic surgery is often treated as a common weekend activity, the emphasis is on highly aesthetic procedures. States in the Mountain area like Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming and the Pacific region states including California, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska, have high rates for breast enhancement – a whopping 37%.

This procedure is followed in popularity by forehead lifts at 36%, and chin augmentation at 35%. Other popular procedures include eyelid surgery, liposuction, facelifts, pectoral implants, breast implant removals, and tummy tucks. The weather, proliferation of summer fashions, proximity to the beach and Hollywood influences, might all contribute to cosmetic surgeries aimed at sculpting the perfect body.

Regardless of your location and current beauty trends, it is important that you choose a surgeon and procedure that is right for you. Don’t let statistics or other people influence your cosmetic decisions.

Trends will change over time, but investing time into researching the surgical procedure and examining your own expectations will help you make a good decision. And no matter where you live, find a skilled, board certified plastic surgeon to perform your procedure.

florida plastic surgery

Dan O. Schaefer asked:

Liposuction, sometimes called lipoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that is used to remove unwanted fat from specific areas of the body, often from the abdomen. Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as the “tummy tuck” procedure, is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to eliminate excess fat and/or sagging skin from the abdominal area. So, which procedure is better? And for whom?

First of all, it is important to clear up a common misconception that plagues both procedures-that this cosmetic surgery is a substitute for weight loss. Both of these procedures are designed to shape the body rather than take the place of diet or exercise. Coming to a cosmetic surgeon with the expectation that a tummy tuck or liposuction can take the place of a truly healthy weight loss regime will only result in disappointment. It will not work, and if a surgeon will agree to one of these procedures for this purpose, that surgeon is not one who can be trusted to do the job a reputable cosmetic surgeon prides him- or herself on.

With that out of the way, let’s take a look at who can benefit from tummy tuck, liposuction, or a combination of the two. Good candidates for abdominoplasty, the tummy tuck surgery, are of average weight but have a protruding abdomen. This can be the result of a large amount of weight loss; in these cases, diet and exercise sometimes cannot remove that excess fat or loose skin, even if you have reached a healthy weight and continue your weight loss regime. It can also result from the loss of abdominal control due to pregnancy or aging.

Good candidates for liposuction or lipoplasty are also of normal weight, and are in good physical and emotional health. You must also have firm, elastic skin. Liposuction targets localized areas of fat unresponsive to diet and exercise. Though the procedure reshapes the body’s silhouette, it is not an alternative to weight loss; realistic expectations of how this will help you should be kept in mind throughout. Lipoplasty can target areas beyond those helped by tummy tuck surgery, and is recommended for other areas of the body including below the chin and on the thighs.

If you are having trouble deciding which procedure might be best for you, consider your expectations. Though both procedures are designed to reshape the body, each has its advantages. Many surgeons recommend the tummy tuck surgery to women who have had multiple children as the best option in regaining a pre-pregnancy body shape. Liposuction is more often recommended to target small problem areas, rather than the abdomen as a whole.

In very few cases, both surgeries can benefit the patient. A tummy tuck, combined with liposuction under the chin, or on the legs, can result in a significant change in the body’s silhouette, which, hopefully, helps the patient to regain the pride in their image they had before. Often, though, the truth of the matter is that neither surgery is the answer. Both abdominoplasty and lipoplasty should only be performed on patients that are healthy in both body and mind.

If you are seeking a quick weight loss solution, see a nutritionist or your family doctor for weight loss help. Plan an exercise routine and begin eating healthier. Find a diet that works for you and stick to it. In conclusion, both the tummy tuck and liposuction are procedures that can benefit many patients. Before getting your heart set on one or the other or both, consult your physician and a c

florida plastic surgery

Jennifer Bolton asked:

Today breast augmentation is a favorite topic of many women of all ages. They do take the risk and easily perform surgeries, inject implants and do admire their breast size.

But still there are women who want to achieve bigger breasts without surgery. What are we supposed to advise them? Is there any other way to have bigger breasts but, please, without surgery? The answer is “Sure”. Fortunately we are ready to suggest you trying some other ways before going under knife.

So if you are determined to gain bigger breasts without surgery you can go to the store and buy a special bra with underneath pads which push forward the breasts and make it look prettier under the clothes.

Another advice will involve using herbal creams and natural oils. They should be used regularly, at least twice a day. You are supposed to do massages with these natural enhancers for a couple of months to achieve bigger breasts without surgery.

Moreover, we want to mention certain exercises which are among other enhancers in the list of methods causing bigger breasts without surgery. When you do chest exercises regularly you enlarge the pectoral muscle located beneath the breast.

Often women take herbal pills containing one herbal extract or a mixture of components. This is very convenient because you don’t have to do massages, don’t have to find a masseur for every day or spend time performing exercises. Because your breasts will certainly become bigger without surgery in case you buy the right pills, as not all of them work in a proper way. So be attentive when choosing!

If you ever heard of the Brava breast enlargement machine you are aware of the magic it can do. Pumping is said to be one more efficient leading to bigger breasts without surgery.

Anyway, keep in mind that all these methods could be even more effectual when used together. But do not forget to consult your doctor about natural enhancers before using them.

florida plastic surgery
