Tummy Tuck Recovery Time and What to Expect

Amy Nutt asked:

With procedures like tummy tucks and breast augmentation easily available to the public now, most people feel that it’s just a minor thing to get cosmetic surgery. Toronto is one city that is truly booming in the plastic surgery industry and here you’ll find that this type of surgery is quite common. No matter how simple the procedure, however, there will be a recovery time and it’s a good idea to inform yourself before you submit to the surgery. Know what to expect and the entire process will go far easier.

How Long to Recover from a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck, also referred to as an abdominoplasty, will require some time to recover from. How much time depends on a few factors, including which type of tummy tuck you had and whether or not liposuction was included in the procedure. Your physical condition before the surgery also has a bearing, those who were fitter before will recover faster.

At the least, you can expect to need a week off. An abdominoplasty may not be major surgery, but it will require at least one night in the hospital for observation and you will likely be quite sore for several more days. If you’ve had liposuction as well as the tummy tuck, you can expect to add at least a couple of days to your recovery time.

Most people won’t feel back to their old selves for over a month. In some cases, when someone has complications or is simply more sensitive than others, a four week recovery period could be required. During this time period, it’s important to relax and not do much. Don’t even consider going back to work until at least a week is up. You just won’t be able to after this kind of cosmetic surgery. Toronto may have some of the best surgeons, but even so, you’ll need to rest.

What to Expect During the Recovery Period

Again, this will depend on what type of surgery you’ve had. The more invasive, the more likely you are going to need to rest. During the first week, you will need to pretty much stay still. It will be pretty painful to walk around the first few days and it’s a good idea to give your body a change to recuperate.

There will be some redness at the incision site and possibly some bruising, as well. If you had liposuction in addition to your tummy tuck, you’ll see more bruising under the skin. This is completely normal and there’s no need to worry, though it can look quite awful for a while.

You’ll need to keep an eye on the incision site, keep it clean and dry and make sure you see your doctor for follow-ups as scheduled. If you notice heat, redness (more than usual) or too much pain in the area, you could be developing an infection and should see your doctor immediately.

When you leave the hospital, your doctor will give you instructions on caring for your scar and will let you know when to come back for a checkup. It’s important to do this so the surgeon can be sure that your incision is healing correctly. After all, this is plastic surgery. Toronto is a big city, so you may want to choose a doctor that isn’t too far from where you live, since it can be uncomfortable to get around right after the surgery.

Plastic surgery can be a way to change your life by sculpting your body into what you want it to be. However, it does help to know what to expect after the surgery.

Foreign Plastic Surgery Gone Bad

Choosing a plastic surgeon is more important than anything. Some people opt to have plastic surgery done outside of the US, obviously for monetary reasons. Here is a report of how a woman’s life was saved by Dr. Salzhauer.

How to Tighten Loose Skin

Kalona Karrington asked:

Loose skin. It’s awful. Truly one of life’s hindrances. After years of extensive dieting and exercise, you finally win the battle, only to have yet another battle to fight. You’re at your ideal weight, you can fit into clothes you couldn’t even look at before, and then you thought you could parade around the beach without the crude taste of embarrassment on your tongue.

Life is full of surprises.

But there is hope. You are not the only poor soul to suffer from loose or sagging skin after major weight loss or pregnancy. Millions of people have the same problem, which is probably the reason you see more and more men and women wading around pools and beaches with sweaters on.

Okay, so the sweater thing was a bit much. But you understand the point I’m making. Loose skin is a problem for a great many people, and regardless of what you may have heard, Dr. Cataracts and his knife is not the only option.

A Natural Recourse

Sea salt is a great skin care treatment. It exfoliates and moisturizes, which in turn tightens skin. You can apply a thin layer of the solution while showering, or if you fancy, pour it into your bath and relax.

Not only will it tighten your skin, but it’s also been known to improve skin tone and remove toxins. A good quality solution will run you about $28 at a beauty shop.

Another natural way to improve skin (specifically skin elasticity) is to eat healthier foods, such as olives, coconuts, tomatoes, cucumbers, salmon, blueberries (yum!), and carrots. You should also drink plenty of water, and, every now and again, sip a cup of green tea. These foods are not only healthy for your skin, but healthy for your entire body!

Adding yeast and aloe vera extract and soy proteins is another good way to improve skin elasticity.

You might also consider visiting a gym and having your percentage of body fat measured. Once you find out your number, you can work at replacing that fat with muscle, which may also help tighten skin.

The Last Resort: Dr. Cataracts

Natural remedies are definitely something you should try before considering plastic surgery, but if they don’t work, surgery may be your only remaining option. The liposuction procedure is a very popular way of improving skin elasticity, as well as removing any remaining fat bulges your dieting and exercise didn’t snuff out.

Liposucton is a very simple medical procedure with few risks when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, whose name probably won’t be Dr. Cataracts. But if it is, just make sure they don’t actually have cataracts.

Do I have a serious problem?

Vivian asked:

Sometimes I’ll never want to go outdoors or visit a family member because I feel ugly. People have deemed me as ”pretty” and ”attractive” but I don’t see this I just feel like my facial features are messed up and I have to look in the mirror in a certain way or at a certain angle five times before I go outside. But when I look in the mirror I HAVE to look only in a certain mirror, I avoid anything where I could see myself (reflections, mirrors, photos) somedays I’ll just feel like my nose is too big, my eyebrows look weird, my lips look too red and big (I’ve considered plastic surgery but never got around to it) when I see a picture of myself I just feel ashamed of myself..I’m not fat, I’m 5’4 and 107 ib – but I always feel like my face is fattening up or becoming less feminine and im becoming uglier and uglier each day so on weekends try I’ll eat very little to thin down my face before seeing my schoolmates. My mom back when she was young was beautiful and pretty, and she looked really feminine whilst I look boyish and awful, even with makeup. Apart from school I almost never go out anywhere because of this. I’m 16 years old and in the 10th grade. Do I have a problem??
I have OCD but I don’t think thats my problem
